If you have pets or children that use the garden then use cinnamon to
repell ants. Sprinkle a line of cinnamon where you don't want ants to
go. Its safe for kid and pets and harmless to the enviroment. If you
want to kill ants you can spray them with Windex. Go to the Dollar Store
and buy your cinnamon or Windex.
Here are some other ways.
One of the easiest ways to rid your garden of ants is to carefully pour three gallons of boiling water on a fire ant mound. Here are some other ways:
Arm & Hammer Baking Soda Dust the ant-infested areas around your plants with Arm & Hammer Baking Soda. The ants eventually disappear because baking soda is poisonous to them.
Campbell's Tomato Soup Prevent ants from climbing up the legs of an outdoor table when camping. Fill four clean, empty Campbell's Tomato Soup cans halfway with water and set a table leg in each can. The ants will not be able to climb up the table.
Crayola Chalk Draw a thick line of Crayola Chalk across the patio floor, sidewalk, or wherever ants tend to march. Ants will not cross a chalk line.
Cream of Wheat Pouring Cream of Wheat on an anthill kills the ants. When an ant eats a tiny grain of wheat, it expands in its stomach, causing death by bloating.
Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap Mix one tablespoon Dr. Bronner's Peppermint Soap with two cups water in a 16-ounce trigger-spray bottle, and spray on plants to both kill and repel ants. The biodegradable soap kills ants on contact, and the peppermint drives away future ants.
Gold Medal Flour Make an impenetrable line with Gold Medal Flour wherever ants are giving you trouble. Ants will not cross through flour.
Heinz White Vinegar Pour Heinz White Vinegar directly on an anthill, or fill a trigger-spray bottle with equal parts vinegar and water, and spray affected plants. The acetic acid in vinegar kills ants.
Johnson's Baby Powder Sprinkle Johnson's Baby Powder wherever ants are marching. Ants will not walk through baby powder.
Maxwell House Coffee Maxwell House Coffee grounds sprinkled in plant beds fertilize the soil with nutrients and simultaneously deter ants. Sprinkling dry Maxwell House Coffee grounds on a fire ant nest kills the ants.
McCormick Spices Black pepper, chili powder, and ground cinnamon are all good for getting rid of ants. Both the pepper and chili powder repel ants, and the little beasties won't cross a line of cinnamon. The latter smells wonderful too!
Minute Rice Sprinkle uncooked Minute Rice around the base of an anthill or wherever ants are a problem. The ants take the rice back to their nest for the colony to devour. When the ants eat it, the rice swells in their stomachs, killing them.

Bonnie Newman cinnamon,
ants do not like cinnamon!! And it works. While living out there on
Myrna Way (across from Joy) years ago, we had ants around our roses and
other flowers! Used cinnamon. The ants won't cross a cinnamon trail.

Sue Farrant Please be careful using poison. Birds eat ants, especially woodpeckers. Use something the ants don't invest! Good luck

Lydia Nofbmsgspls Fiedler lol. No poison - lots of ants come from potting soil - that's how fire ants came to America. They don't like water. If they aren't fire ants, they are good aerators. if the are fire ants they will move with daily watering

Rachael Knight We have a lot of ants here. We don't worry about them as long as they're not trying to come into our house. It's all part of nature for them to be doing their thing outside. Unless they're attacking your plants, I'd leave them alone.

D Carol Baker Thank God there outside I get them in the house all spring and summer. Remember ants are clean and most harmless

Barb Mead Shelton We've sprinkled "cornmeal" around ant parades!! That's supposed to pop them when they haul it back...but I have also heard that Petunias (don't know if you have any) thrive on ants...helps them for some reason!

David Weary Use all the old chemicals that you saved from when your folks moved. Make a toxic waste dump around the house. So I've got six deformed fingers. Otherwise mint works great.

Jan DeLay Hoyt Dont let them in the house!!!!
Terri George My husband boils water and pours on mound, lets it cool, the ones left alive will carry out the dead ones, then he repeats. By the 3rd time he's usually got them all, but the hot water may kill your plants. No chemicals tho!
Barb Keca Hendrickson I sprinkle dry grits in ant hills. The ants die because they can't digest the grits. And, this won't hurt any of your plants! Hope it helps.

Bonnie Gonzales Rodriguez My friend Esther fills gallon empty milk container with water and puts them all over her garden or planters it keeps the ants out.
